“No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart.”
Have you ever fallen asleep while praying or reading the Bible? I have, and I have felt pretty guilty about it. That is why I want to tell you something that may help you see it in a different light.
I have been privileged to lead the meetings for the teens during an annual Christian conference for many years. I always give myself for 110% and afterwards I am pretty tired out. This time was no different. I came home that Monday afternoon and laid down on the sofa. My youngest son came and laid down next to me and fell asleep with his head on my chest. We both had a little nap together. Do you think I minded? On the contrary, I enjoyed it and was pleased that he felt safe in my arms. It only made my love grow for him.
So let’s look at this in light of our relationship with God. Imagine that we spend time with Him – by praying or reading his Word – and we fall asleep. How would He, as our heavenly Father, see us? Maybe you think that He holds it against you. But I am convinced that God always enjoys us. Even when we pray or read and are very tired. We are allowed to fall asleep on the lap of our heavenly Father. I am sure that it increases his love for us.
God is proud of you when you spend time with Him, even if you fall asleep doing it. So do not feel guilty if you fall asleep. Just keep in mind that you are allowed to be in the presence of the loving Father. He carries you and enjoys the fact that you want to be in his presence.
