We have all been there: the beautiful moments, but also the tough times in life. We sometimes call them storms. One person will say they are “spiritual battles”, yet another will see them as just another aspect of life. I have discovered that everyone, at some point in their life, will go through storms. We aren’t the only ones though, Jesus also experienced storms. Literally! Yet He conquered them again and again and stood above them.
I once heard someone say: “Jesus stood above the storms, because He didn’t let them in”. I thought that was so awesome! Too often I notice how the chaos that is swirling around me, comes in as well. I feel the unrest, and guilt washes over me. I look for options to calm the storm. That does not always work. You often cannot influence the choices of people around you, or the circumstances. The unrest remains, and what do you do then? I believe that we can learn to find our peace in God, in spite of the storms swirling around us.
There may be huge storms on the surface of the ocean, yet you will not notice it in the depths of the ocean. The storm is on the surface, where you see and feel everything. But deep down on the inside of you there is silence. Jesus is deep down on the inside of you where His Spirit brings peace. What is the best way to learn how to find that place of silence, of peace? That is right! In the middle of the storm! A storm is the perfect opportunity to learn how to remain in the peace of God, and to prevent the storm from entering in and raging on the inside. Conquer your unrest, so that you can enter into rest, even while the storm is still raging. I bless you with the peace of Jesus and His victory in your life!
John 14:27: Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
